Cooperation agreements with the China University of Political Science and Law, the Chinese National Office for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language «Hanban» and Heilongjiang University were signed by Dr. Sergey Ivanets during his official first FEFU delegation visit to China.
The working trip of representatives from one of the largest Russian universities took place August 27-28. The Russian delegation was headed by Far Eastern Federal University President Dr. Sergey Ivanets. The working group also included the Vice-President for Academic Affairs Dr. Vladimir Kurilov and Director of FEFU Confucius Institute Dr. Konkordia Kurilova.
During the meeting with Dr. Huang Jin, the President of the China University of Political Science and Law – one of the biggest Chinese law schools– the parties signed an agreement of bilateral cooperation regarding academic student and faculty exchanges, exchanges of scientific and legislative bases, and also of the opportunity of establishment dual-degree programs.
While meeting with the Russian delegation, the Chairman of the Chinese National Office for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language “Hanban,” Ms. Xu Lin, noted the huge contribution by the FEFU Confucius Institute to improving the quality and accessibility of teaching Chinese in Russia.
Today, the Confucius Institutes exist in 108 countries of the world, and their number is nearing 400. However, Ms. Xu Lin emphasized: “Despite the fact that the quantity of our institutions all over the world is quite large, the Confucius Institute based at FEFU is one of the best in the world and the best in Russia.” The agreement to further develop the FEFU Confucius Institute, signed during the meeting, will contribute to spreading high-quality programs of teaching Chinese language and culture in Russia.
Two agreements were signed with the President of Heilongjiang University, Mr. Zhang Chengwen, during the negotiations, about bilateral cooperation and about cooperation directed at Confucius Institute development. Heilongjiang University remains one of the primary bases of cooperation between FEFU and China: the university annually provides up to 15 professors, native speakers of Chinese, who are aware of modern teaching techniques.
“The statistics indicate a high quality of FEFU educational programs: in the last 6 years, first prizes in world competitions in Chinese language and culture have been won by our students. The university constantly improves its programs and year by year trains more and more students, Sinologists, which corresponds to the interests of strategic partnership between Russia and China in the sphere of economics and politics,”noted Dr. Sergey Ivanets.
The new FEFU President has already declared internationalization to be a priority task of the university, and the signing of the agreements was a logical continuation of Dr. Sergey Ivanets’ policy for integrating FEFU into the international scene.
