The “Model United Nations in the Far East” team, which includes FEFU students, took part in the Asian-Pacific International Model United Nations conference.
The event took place in Bangkok (Thailand) and was organized by the Asian Institute of Technology and the ASEAN Regional Center of Excellence on Millennium Development Goals, with the support of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) and the government of Thailand. The opening ceremony took place in the ESCAP head office.
The participants of the conference included students from most Asian countries (the Philippines, China, Japan, Korea, Pakistan, Indonesia, Thailand, etc.), and also from Oman, Italy and Australia.
The delegates simulated the work of the eleven committees of United Nations Organization, defending the policies of different countries. The participants from the “Model United Nations in the Far East” represented Germany in 8 committees. Because the team represented Germany, the organizers of the conference gave them the opportunity to be briefed about the politics of the country by political and protocol Counselor of Germany in the Kingdom of Thailand Mr. Arend Wulff.
After the conference the FEFU students (Vladimir Tananykin, Anna Ivanova, Ksenia Shevtsova, Marina Rashchepkina, Valeria Knysheva and Oksana Zimenko) were invited to a meeting in the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Thailand. They spoke with Senior Counselor and Deputy Permanent Representative of ESCAP Mr. Evgeniy Bessonov, Third Secretary Mr. Taras Pronin and attaché and assistant to Permanent Representative of ESCAP Mr. Ilya Andreyev. The diplomats spoke at length about their work in international organizations, shared their experience and gave advice to those who would like to follow their footsteps.
At the end of the conference, the “Model United Nations in the Far East” team earned the title “Outstanding delegation.” Additionally, Vladimir Tananykin was named the best delegate in his committee and Ksienia Shvetsova was recognized for producing the best documents.
The “Model United Nations in the Far East” organization is very thankful to Far Eastern Federal University for its help and assistance in conference participation.
