FEFU will help famous Japanese peace-builder and art patron, Mr. Matsunaga Tadakimi, establish a Society of Japanese-Vietnamese friendship in Tottori prefecture.
Famous Japanese peace-builder and art patron, Chairman of the Tottori prefecture society "Japan – Russia" Mr. Matsunaga Tadakimi, who presented Vladivostok with a Buddha statue, is now initiates the establishment of a Society of Japanese-Vietnamese friendship in his prefecture. FEFU will help him with this project.
The statue was renovated and installed 2 years ago in the park near the FEFU Oriental Institute. Professor of the FEFU School of Regional and International Studies Pacific Asia Department, and Chairman of the Primorsky Regional Society of Friendship with Vietnam, Dr. Alexander Sokolovsky, said that the installation of the statue was aided by Vietnamese citizens – mostly natives of Hai Phong, temporarily living and working in Vladivostok.
Together with the FEFU students who study Japanese and Vietnamese, natives of Hai Phong help to preserve and maintain order in the square where the statue is situated: they look after the flowerbed around the monument, take away fallen leaves, and take care of the natural flowers that should always lie in front of the statue and the fruits and sweets that must be there when the moon is full (as ritual requires).
Having learned about all this and about the tenderness that FEFU students and the Vietnamese express towards this Vladivostok Buddha statue that symbolizes peace in the Pacific, Mr. Matsunaga expressed sincere gratitude and appreciation to everyone who contribute to the statue's preservation and maintenance. He also said that he intends to create a Society of Japanese and Vietnamese friendship in his Tottori prefecture. The FEFU School of Regional and International Studies and the Primorsky Regional Society of Friendship with Vietnam will serve as intermediaries in the realization of this important initiative contributing to partnership and peace in the Asia-Pacific region.
