Experimental evaluation influence
of pre-whirl flow before impeller on characteristics of centrifugal pump

Abstract. In order to expand the operating range by improving the hydraulic properties of centrifugal pumps in the non-calculating mode, the article theoretically discusses the influence of the guide apparatus on the main characteristics of a centrifugal pump, and the method of designing an adjustable guide device that allows improving the flow construction before inlet of the impeller when the operating mode changes. When the angle of installation of the blades of the guide apparatus is changed by using the Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations and the RNG k-ε equations of the turbulence model, a three-dimensional flow is modeled in the full flow part of the centrifugal pump. The hydraulic characteristics of a centrifugal pump at different angles of installation of the blade of the guide vane are obtained through a physical experiment. It has been confirmed that the results of numerical simulation and experiment coincide with the theoretical analysis of the influence of the pre-whirl flow on the characteristics centrifugal pump.
Keywords: centrifugal pump, pre-whirl flow, guide apparatus, numerical simulation, characteristics of the pump, operating range of the pump, blade angle.
