Rods flat bending simulation with regard to transverse shear deformations

Abstract: At the present time, the multilayer structures with composite materials that have low shear stiffness are widely used in construction, shipbuilding, and aeronautics. However, the influence of such a parameter as geometric characteristics is the most significantly expressed in the calculations of structures made of materials with a small value of shear modulus. Therefore, it is necessary to adjust the classical algorithms for calculating core structures and their elements with respect to the correction for transverse shear deformations.

This paper presents the author's refined approach to the calculation of core systems, taking into account the influence of self-balanced components of the edge load in which the desired components of the stress state should not violate the equilibrium conditions of any elementary volume of the body. This approach, with the accuracy necessary for assessing the reliability of the ship’s core structures, takes into account the transverse shear deformation.

Keywords: rod systems, edge load, transverse shear deformation.
