Contemporary practice of reconstruction and sustainable development of the seaside cities' cultural landscapes

Abstract: Implementation of development programs of the Russian cities implies the new management organization allowing to apply strategically focused techniques and methods for providing a sustainable development. In this regard, the challenges of a sustainable urban development are of particular importance at the present stage. Recently, a large number of researches for sustainable development of urban landscapes have been carried out, involving experts of the most different directions. The comparative analysis of case studies enables one to establish the most significant aspects of reconstruction of the cities’ cultural space, to identify methods of regeneration of the city substance rich in material and immaterial cultural values as well as to define effective approaches for the integrated study of both spatial and valuable patterns of the urban environment evolution.
The challenges of sustainable development of cultural landscapes are considered in the article with regard to seaside cities, which have a special potential. The analysis and interpretation of the experience of the historical seaside cities' transformation, made by the authors of the article, allows revealing significant elements of the cultural landscape and the effective methods for regeneration and sustainable urban development.
