School's Bio

The FEFU Advanced Engineering School (FEFU AES) is one of 30 advanced engineering schools of the Russian Federation of various specializations, determined as a result of the Federal Competition of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education and supported by the Government of the Russian Federation.

The school is the only one in the Far East and one of three in Russia with a biotechnological specialization that has received the status of Advanced Engineering Schools of Federal Significance.

Research areas of the Advanced Engineering School:

  • Industrial ecology and biotechnology
  • Biology and biotechnology in agriculture
  • Food industry
  • Biotechnical systems and technologies
  • Artificial intelligence and digital technologies
  • Advanced production technologies.

FEFU Advanced Engineering School "Institute of Biotechnology, Bioengineering and Food Systems" thematically includes technologies from three conventionally divided areas: agro- and ecobiotechnologies, industrial biotechnologies and food biotechnologies, created and developed using genomic, end-to-end IT and bioinformation technologies and implemented in a consortium with high-tech business and research partners.

Among the technologies of increased attention are production technologies and biotechnologies for the production and synthesis of food and feed ingredients and products, various biological products - vitamins, amino acids, enzymes, peptides, probiotics and other valuable biologically active substances. Until recently, almost 100% of the products of these technologies were imported into the Russian Federation; the share of imports remains critical today.

Technological priorities are of key importance for the School, and priority technologies created in cooperation with partners, within the framework of which the joint training of personnel with unique competencies is carried out, will be the answer to the serious challenges facing the country. Among them, the challenges of food security and technological independence are of high importance.

FEFU AES partners have dozens of such modern projects; their implementation will make it possible to systematically solve the set tasks of technological independence in particularly sensitive sectors of the economy related to nutrition, quality of life and public health.

The key vector of the FEFU AES is the practical training of new generation engineers together with partners. Each FEFU AES student and employee will have the opportunity to undergo internships at partner companies, receive additional qualifications and build competencies through participation in scientific projects commissioned by the real sector.

Scientific and technological cooperation between the University and the key partner of FEFU AES - the Scientific and Production Group of Companies (SPGC) "Arnika", which built and launched in the Far Eastern Federal District the first high-tech production of feed vitamins, probiotics and veterinary drugs in Russia with technologies that are not inferior to, and even superior to, world-class leaders, declares high needs in the labor market. At Arnika enterprises, the main specialists are graduates of the university’s basic department of “Bioeconomics and Food Security” - production managers, chief and leading technologists, managers and employees of quality services, the company’s scientific R&D Center, product export services, etc.

FEFU AES other partners are the largest companies in the region and country: Antey Group of Companies, JSC Management Systems (Rostec Corporation), Ratimir Group of Companies, Dobroflot Group of Companies (Yuzhmorybflot), as well as high-tech companies - Koryakmoreprodukt, DV Expert, Vladtorgimport, Marine Biotechnopark, Innopharm, Biotech 2030 platform, Motorica.

Among the main results of the School’s development, it is worth noting, firstly, the number of graduates trained together with business under new programs: over 8 years (until 2030) it is planned to train about 2,600 people, of which up to 1,400 will be guaranteed jobs at enterprises in the Far Eastern Federal District and the Russian Federation. It is planned to develop and implement 34 educational programs, of which 8 are “technological” Master’s programs, 2 Specialist’s programs, 4 are Bachelor’s programs, 3 PhD programs, and 17 vocational training programs and advanced training programs.

Thanks to the new organization of practice-oriented training for FEFU AES students, we accelerate the student’s entry into the real labor market, starting at an early stage of training.
