Student Tech & Innovation Center

FEFU Student Tech & Innovation Center (STIC) is a joint project of FEFU and Russky Technopark, which provides FEFU students with an opportunity to work on innovative and potentially commercial projects and involve industrial partners into such collaborations. FEFU STIC prepares future professionals in various fields of science and technology under the careful guidance of experienced entrepreneurs and FEFU faculty and staff.

Totally, more than 150 students of different majors from FEFU School of Engineering, School of Data Economy, and other Schools are currently developing their projects in small teams at FEFU STIC. There are more than 30 innovative ideas in progress, such as an automation system for modern engineering platforms, and a small spacecraft with a solar sail.

FEFU STIC possesses all necessary equipment, workplaces and accessories, including 3D-printers, CNC milling machine and turning lathe, “clean room”, spacecraft communications station, and laser cutting machine. That is why FEFU students can easily practice their professional skills and competences, constructing and developing their prototypes for further pitches. The following innovative clusters are represented in the Center:

·         Space Systems (instrument engineering, small satellites and satellite systems);

·         Big Data and Internet of Things (Earth’s remote sensing, automatic monitoring of transport, urban infrastructure, coastal lines, and agriculture);

·         Robotics (autonomous underwater robotics, ground and air transport);

·         Neurotech and Biotech (prostheses and exoskeletons, neurocontrol technology, neurostimulators);

·         Architecture and Design (smart cities).

The Student Tech & Innovation Center also conducts various high-tech events for university and high school students, such as hackathons and engineering competitions. The Center has a number of partners, including “MTS” and “Tele2” companies, Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology, and “Sputniks” Space Company, which support STIC in implementing new projects and ideas.

Moreover, every year FEFU STIC student project groups successfully participate in international competitions. For example, in 2019 the underwater robotics team took part in such competitions as the Singapore AUV Challenge-2019, where they got the first prize with “Pandora” robot. In addition, FEFU team got second places at the ХХII International Student AUV competition RoboSub 2019 in the US, and at the World Robotics Olympiad 2019 in Hungary.
