Nov 17, 2016 - Admission

Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) has tripled the enrollment of students from Latin America in 2016. Currently, 71 nationals of Colombia, Brazil, Mexico, Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia, and Venezuela are studying at the leading university of the Russian Far East.

According to Oksana Blazhilina, Head of Office, International Admissions, FEFU International Education Department, the increase in the number of representatives of the Latin American continent meets the implementation of the international strategy of the University which aims not only to increase the total number of international students, but also to expand their geography.

"In 2017 we expect about 100 new students from South America," says Oksana Blazhilina. "We rely on prospective students from Colombia, Brazil, Bolivia, Chile, Mexico, Ecuador, and in the future we expect the enrollment to grow by an average of 70-80 people a year."

Now, most students from these countries take courses in the FEFU Center of Russian Language and Culture, where they are preparing to pursue higher education programs. Twenty two persons from Colombia, Venezuela, and Mexico are pursuing the main areas of study. Most Latin American nationals are attracted to FEFU by medical specialties, including the new clinical studies programs, which young doctors from Mexico, Brazil, and Bolivia plan to enroll next year. Engineering, Economics, and Design are also popular majors.
