A two-day seminar on intercultural communication for students of BRICS Educational Internship Program was held at Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU). Most of the course was organized in a playful way and includes group work, the creation of real and mock-up projects, and discussions between delegates. Participants were able to improve their understanding of each other's values, learned how to avoid conflicts, plunged into the development of soft skills necessary for the academic environment.

The seminar is specially adapted for the BRICS Educational Internship Program so that students from different countries can build effective interaction during the international internship. Participants became more familiar with each other through the specifics of differences in cultures and features of semantic accents depending on the cultural experience of the interlocutor.

The first day of the seminar was aimed at improving the skills necessary for public speaking, effective presentations, and negotiations. On the second day, participants learned how to consciously and tolerantly relate to the cultures of other countries and possible differences.

“I am sure that the skills of intercultural communication acquired during the interactive workshop will be useful for students of BRICS program. The first results of the acquired knowledge will become noticeable already during “BRICS Dialogues” in April, where delegates will have to both argumentatively prove their point of view and listen to each other”, said Victoria Panova, FEFU Vice-President for International Relations.

Far Eastern Federal University took the initiative to conduct an educational program for students of BRICS countries in regards to the Presidency of the Russian Federation in BRICS in 2020. During the spring semester, 70 foreign students from Brazil, India, China and the Republic of South Africa and 38 participants of FEFU Academic Excellence and Honors Education Program undergo training in the most relevant areas of undergraduate and graduate programs for BRICS countries.

FEFU is actively working towards internationalization and expansion of international cooperation. Conducting educational programs for foreign students is an integral part of the university’s integration into the global agenda and is aimed at improving the competitiveness of the university in the framework of the 5-100 Project.
