The Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) has joined the ranks of the world's best universities in the QS World University Rankings 2025 (QS 2025). Compared to last year, FEFU has improved its position in the composite ranking, and in one of the indicators, it has not only made it into the top 50, but also surpassed Harvard University by three positions.
FEFU is one of the few Russian universities to have improved its ranking compared to the previous year, taking the 631-640th place in the overall competitive list of more than one and a half thousand universities. Among the 47 national higher education institutions represented in QS 2025, FEFU is ranked 16th, and the leader of Russian universities is Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov. The top 5 in the world university ranking are the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Imperial College London, the University of Oxford, Harvard University, and the University of Cambridge.
The higher education analytics firm Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) evaluated universities in terms of nine indicators. FEFU has demonstrated the best result in the Faculty-Student Ratio, which represents the degree of accessibility of the academic staff to students. According to this indicator, FEFU has taken the 50th position globally, scoring 96.7 points, and surpassing one of the most prestigious universities — Harvard University.
FEFU made significant gains in the International Research Network which reflects the university's ability to establish and maintain research partnerships that result in internationally co-authored publications. The score of the university in this metric has increased by 36.6 points, reaching 41.7 points.
International Student Ratio is also the field where FEFU's strong performance can be seen. The university has scored 63.1 points and ranked 239th, surpassing Stanford University, which holds the 5th position in the world university rankings.
It is worth mentioning that FEFU regularly wins high positions in national and international rankings of higher education institutions. In 2024, the university took 23rd place in the Forbes ranking of Russian universities, 25th place in the RAEX-100 list and 22nd—24th place in the National University Rating.
To remind, FEFU is currently conducting its admission campaign for the academic year 2024. The university offers more than 250 educational programs and has almost 5,000 state-funded places available. Applications for admission can be made either in person at the FEFU campus or via Gosuslugi, the portal of public services of the Russian Federation.
