In accordance with the agreement, FEFU and VNUHCM set plans to implement academic mobility programs and promote student exchange. The parties also expressed their hope to further deepen relations in the field of joint educational programs and scientific research.
It is worth mentioning that FEFU has established longstanding connections with Vietnamese higher education institutions. Since 1999, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) has been a strategic partner of FEFU, and Nguyen Kim Son, the former President of VNU and the Minister of Education and Training of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (SRV), is an Honorary Doctor of FEFU. Besides, the FEFU Representative Office in Vietnam operates on the basis of VNU. It is the first office of the Russian university in the SRV.
“For more than fifty years, FEFU has been building up cooperation with Vietnamese educational, scientific, governmental, and commercial institutions, thus serving as a communication platform for mutual cooperation. In recent years, we have significantly expanded cooperation with our partners, going beyond educational programs. We have launched a number of joint research projects, and we see the growing interest of Vietnamese colleagues to this work,” – said Evgeny Vlasov, FEFU Vice President for International Relations.
The number of university initiatives that have been carried out in collaboration with Vietnamese scientists is growing. FEFU is assisting Sber to bring domestic AI solutions to the Vietnamese markets: in April, the Russian-Vietnamese Intergovernmental Commission reached an agreement with VNU to open a trilateral AI research center. Today, a team of scientists is working on adapting the tropical cyclone monitoring technology to meet the needs of Vietnamese enterprises. This year, the FEFU Advanced Engineering School and the Institute of Mathematics and Computer Technologies are collaborating with VNU to design containers for storing Vietnamese agricultural products and to develop AI-driven software for monitoring air quality.
At the end of last year, FEFU joined the Russian-Vietnamese Universities Consortium to strengthen networking with industrial partners of Russia and Vietnam. FEFU intends to prepare highly qualified specialists in the field of ICT to support science-based projects in Vietnam within the consortium.
First Forum of Presidents of Russian and Vietnamese Universities was held in Hanoi at the National Economics University on May 28, 2019. Presidents and Vice Presidents of more than 60 Russian and Vietnamese universities joined the Forum. The event served as a valuable forum for discussing issues and opportunities for collaboration, as well as the maintenance and growth of a common humanitarian education space.
To remind, the SRV is one of the FEFU's priority strategic partners in the Asia-Pacific region. FEFU is the only university in the Far East and Siberia that introduced Vietnamese studies as an independent educational and research area. The FEFU Institute of Oriental Studies – School of Regional and International Studies annually enrolls students who learn Vietnamese within the specialist degree Linguistic Support of Interstate Relations. This academic year, 33 Russian students are learning Vietnamese at the university, while the total number of foreign students from Vietnam is 58. Every year with the support of the Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam and the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia FEFU students who learn Vietnamese improve their language skills for 10 months at the Faculty of Vietnamese Studies and Language for international students, VNU University of Social Sciences and Humanities. Last academic year, 15 people joined the internship.
