Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) and Rosatom State Nuclear Corporation plan to establish the International Research Center for Advanced Nuclear Technology Transfer to the Asia-Pacific Countries on Russky Island in 2017. Nikita Anisimov, FEFU Acting President, discussed the project with Oleg Barabanov, Rosatom Director for Development and Restructuring, during his visit to Vladivostok.

The Center will initiate orders for the research to the FEFU scientific collectives in the interests of the Corporation; and the University will undertake analytical and mediation functions in the interaction of the Far East business representatives in the field of nuclear technology. It is also planned in the Center to host Russian and international conferences, seminars and the exhibition of achievements of modern nuclear technologies.

 

Oleg Barabanov, accompanied by Acting President Nikita Anisimov, Deputy Director of the School of Natural Sciences of Alexander Gridasov and Kirill Golokhvast, visited the FEFU Academic Department of Nuclear Technology. Ivan Tananaev, Department Director, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, spoke about the development of nuclear education in the University and the research conducted in the laboratory.

Far Eastern Federal University is the only University in the Russian Far East, where specialists are trained for work in the sphere of nuclear technology. The following several programs have been opened in FEFU: Nuclear Physics and Technology, Nuclear Power and Thermal Physics, and Chemical Technology of Modern Energy Materials. For the last year significant success has been made at the research Laboratory of Nuclear Technology under the supervision of Ivan Tananaev. Scientists have developed new ways to manufacture nuclear fuel and sources of ionizing radiation, as well as to process radioactive waste containing seawater.
