Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) and the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NAS of Belarus) signed an Agreement on scientific and technical cooperation. During a meeting between FEFU Vice President for International Relations Evgeny Vlasov and Chief Scientific Secretary of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Vasily Gursky, the parties agreed not only to continue the joint implementation of scientific projects, but also to initiate a number of new studies of a fundamental and applied nature. Also during the meeting, the creation of conditions for the development of scientific schools, training of highly qualified scientists, and advanced researchers’ training was discussed.

“The Far Eastern Federal University is deepening scientific and technical cooperation with all friendly countries, and it is obvious that joint work is bringing results. Thus, the developments of scientists from FEFU and Belarus in the field of creation and use of innovative materials make it possible to ensure the environmental safety of our countries. I am confident that strengthening our cooperation will allow us to quickly achieve new results not only in the field of environmental science, but also in other scientific and educational priority areas,” noted FEFU Vice President for International Relations Evgeny Vlasov.

“The potential of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the Far Eastern Federal University allows us to cooperate in many areas, as well as conduct large-scale interdisciplinary research. I hope that our agreement will become the basic building block of our partnership, and in the near future we will be able to develop a detailed roadmap for our projects,” said Vasily Gursky, Chief Scientific Secretary of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.

He also suggested that, in order to effectively implement the signed agreement, all interested parties should submit their proposals to the draft roadmap, which would outline possible areas of cooperation between the institutes of FEFU and the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.
“Interaction with colleagues from Belarus made it possible to quickly develop technologies that can reduce the risks of environmental problems, both in our country and in a friendly state. I am sure that a positive example will stimulate the teams of our young researchers to intensify their work and launch even more joint projects in this area,” emphasized Evgeniy Papynov, Deputy Director for Development of the Institute of High Technologies and Advanced Materials of the Far Eastern Federal University.

As part of the agreement, scientists from the Institute of High Technologies and Advanced Materials of the Far Eastern Federal University will continue to work with colleagues from the Institute of General and Inorganic Chemistry of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. Researchers are jointly developing technologies to isolate and concentrate dangerous radionuclides. In particular, a series of composite sorbents that make it possible to more effectively purify radioactive water and recycle dangerous solid nuclear materials have been already produced.

Let us recall that research in the field of materials science is the basis of the strategic project “Physics and Materials Science”, which is supported by the “Priority 2030” program. Scientific projects in this area are an important aspect in the implementation of the strategic goal of developing the university as a leader in scientific, educational and technological activities in the Russian Far East, a center for technology transfer and innovation activity in the Asia-Pacific region.
