Far Eastern Federal University and the University of the Arctic (UArctic) take collaboration to a new level. UArctic President Lars Kullerud (Norway) and Vice President Outi Snellman (Finland) arrived at FEFU to discuss upcoming joint projects and research dedicated to the Arctic region.

"Federal University status obliges us to strive to achieve new heights in education, science, and technology. UArctic represents for us a reliable partner in FEFU capacity development in the Arctic research, and in strengthening the role and place of the university in Arctic Science," Acting FEFU President Vladimir Nikolayev emphasized. "20 years of UArctic's successful experience and credibility in the world community will ensure the long-term and fruitful partnership with FEFU."

Far Eastern Federal University joined the University of the Arctic in September 2015. UArctic President Lars Kullerud pointed out that FEFU immediately got engaged in the work in many subject areas. In particular, the FEFU representative in the University of the Arctic, the President's Advisor on Priority Projects Igor Osipov managed to gather a group of authoritative experts, who analyze the existing research ties within UArctic.

The visit of the UArctic senior leadership team in Far Eastern Federal University is designed to broaden the agenda of cooperation between the parties. Lars Kullerud and Outi Snellman will hold a series of meetings with the representatives of the FEFU Schools, where they will review the existing practices in the Arctic theme and the new projects with a view to their implementation in the framework of the University network.

"Extensive experience of studying the Arctic region issues in the fields of engineering and law has been collected in FEFU. We strive to ensure that the currently important topic of the Arctic will cover the entire University," Igor Osipov said. "The School of Natural Sciences, for example, has proposals in the field of biology and ecology of the sea, the School of Arts, Culture and Sport the ones pertaining to the study of human capabilities and Sports Biomedicine, and the Oriental Institute has proposals for the whole spectrum of humanities research."
