At the ceremony in Hanoi the rectors of the Far Eastern Federal University and Vietnam National University signed a new inter-university cooperation agreement. The ceremony was attended by the leaders of Russia and Vietnam, Vladimir Putin and To Lam.

According to the agreement, the FEFU Representative Office in Hanoi will move to the new VNU campus, which will allow the universities to cooperate more closely. The parties intend to work on increasing academic mobility and the number of students who can study in both countries.

One of the key points of the document is the development of joint research programmes, both in the already traditional fields of Russian and Vietnamese studies and in technical disciplines: energy, water transport, technologies using artificial intelligence, including the implementation of for the realisation of the “smart campus” concept at VNU.

The time has come to open a new chapter in the cooperation between our universities and extend it beyond language teaching, so that FEFU and VNU students can study various disciplines, including technical ones, at an international level. Colleagues from VNU are particularly interested in our developments in the field of artificial intelligence – products based on neural networks for transport, logistics, energy, ecology, competent operation of infrastructure and creation of optimal conditions for living, learning and working,” said Boris Korobets, President of the Far Eastern Federal University.

To remind, the Far Eastern Federal University is the centre of modern oriental studies in Russia and the country's academic outpost in the Asia-Pacific region. The strategic goal of the university, implemented as part of the “Eastern Vector” policy, is to “reassemble” educational programmes with a focus on applied expertise in the Asian region and to train specialists capable of providing “one-stop-shop” support for Russian business, finding exclusive niches, developing trade and economic activities, working in multidisciplinary teams, and introducing Russian goods and technologies to foreign markets in the East.

The representative office of FEFU in Hanoi has been operating on the basis of VNU since 2018. The Socialist Republic of Vietnam is one of the priority strategic partners of the university in the Asia-Pacific region – today FEFU is the only university in Siberia and the Far Eastern Federal District where Vietnamese studies are represented, Vietnam and the Vietnamese language are systematically studied. In the academic year 2023-2024 the total number of students from Vietnam in FEFU has reached 70 persons.

Vietnamese partners are expected to attend the EEF-2024 events: APEC CCHE and the conference on Russian-Vietnamese relations, which the University will co-host with the Russian Historical Society. More than 10 Vietnamese speakers, including rectors and representatives of the research community, have already confirmed their participation.
