Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) and Digital Science signed an agreement for the university to join the Dimensions Development Partnership Program. The agreement is timed to the launch of Dimensions global research information platform in Russia, which brings together data on scientific grants, publications, industry standards, and patents for the first time.

Dimensions platform is the result of joint work of scientists, universities, foundations, and publishers from all over the world, including major Russian universities and foundations. According to its creators, such an alliance has allowed them to rethink the methods of searching and analyzing scientific information. Most databases and analytical tools focus on publications and citations. Dimensions, in turn, creates a new reality. It integrates information on awarded grants, publications, citations, patents and clinical trials into a single picture of the research landscape: from inputs to results, patents and the translation of clinical trials into treatment methods.

The platform provides free access to search more than 86 million articles and books. It also makes available in one click more than 9 million articles from public resources provided by many publishers. 124 million previously disparate documents, descriptions of 3.6 million grants for the total amount of US$ 1.2 trillion, raised for the financing of basic and applied research worldwide, 34 million patents, and the results of half a million clinical trials are available in the analytical part of the platform. All of them are now interconnected through 3.8 billion reciprocal links and contextualized by a number of metrics and altmetrics.

According to Dmitry Zemtsov, the FEFU Vice President for Development, the participation in the partnership program will provide the university with early access to the latest products, releases, and the platform features. FEFU will also be able to assist Digital Science in identifying the most promising areas for research, based on the current needs of society and business, to participate in the development and testing of new products.

“We have seen the rapid digitalization of science in recent years. Everything that used to be convenient and available in print has now lost its relevance and literally ‘gone into the network’. The university as a training center for the future is obliged to respond to this challenge. Our task is to be at the forefront of science and the digital economy, therefore cooperation with Digital Science is an important step for us in the development of FEFU. We look forward to a long-term relationship that will help us build strong ‘electronic’ links with our partners and promptly search for new ones,” said Kirill Golokhvast, the FEFU Vice President for Research.
