The students of the Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) won XVII international conference Model United Nations of the Russian Far East (MUNRFE). More than 80 young diplomats from universities of Russia and the Asia-Pacific region countries have been modeling the work of the United Nations for four days. Top delegates will represent the country in the National Model United Nations in New York in March 2019.

Students of the Institute of Oriental Studies - School of Regional and International Studies and the School of Economics and Management: Nikita Volkov, Galina Salnikova, Polina Varfolomeeva, Natalia Zuykova, and Daria Zlydar were recognized as the winners. These students will form a university delegation and represent FEFU in the UN General Assembly in New York. The student of the Institute of Oriental Studies - School of Regional and International Studies Polina Babenko won the “Special Recognition” award and will take part in the Moscow International Model UN named after Vitaly Churkin in April 2019.

The conference was attended by Vladimir Kuznetsov, Director of the UN Information Centre in Moscow, and Aleksey Borisov, Secretary-General of the UN Association of Russia. Moreover, young diplomats received an official message from António Guterres, UN Secretary-General.

“The student conference is one of the largest projects of MUNRFE,” said Alexandra Kosyreva, Deputy Executive Director of the Model United Nations of the Russian Far East. - It is especially valuable that this year we were supported by representatives of the UN Secretariat in Russia. However, the most important aspect of any event is its participants. We are very pleased that the winners of the conference were such talented and purposeful students who will represent FEFU in New York.”

MUNRFE is one of the largest youth organizations in the region, Vladivostok branch is based at FEFU. By participating in conferences and debates, students develop leadership skills, learn the art of negotiations, public speaking, diplomatic etiquette, and intercultural communication. The best participants annually represent Russia at international conferences in the USA, the Republic of Korea, China and other countries.
