A branch of the Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) will open in Guangzhou of the People's Republic of China (PRC). It will become the first Russian university in Guangdong province. The corresponding agreement was signed by FEFU and Xinhua University at the VIII Eastern Economic Forum. The branch will train specialists for China in the fields of economics, management, international relations and biomedicine.

It is planned that the university branch in Guangzhou will be launched in 2024. At the same time, students from China will be able to undergo internships and practical training, including immersion in a Russian-speaking environment, in Vladivostok at the Far Eastern Federal University.

“FEFU continues to strengthen ties with Chinese partners. If previously the university had traditional communications mainly with the Northeast of China: the provinces of Heilongjiang, Liaoning, Jilin, now we have intensified work with the Southern provinces. The university is one of the most important instruments for implementing the state policy of “Turn to the East”, therefore FEFU is constantly expanding its presence in Asia and is systematically promoting the Russian educational system abroad. The opening of a FEFU branch in Guangzhou will set a new direction for academic and language exchanges between Russia and China,” said FEFU President Boris Korobets.

The legal framework will be prepared in the near future and a location for the construction of the branch will be determined. It is assumed that, first of all, an infrastructure will be built to organize the educational process in the field of economics, management, and international relations. In the future, the list of specialties is planned to be expanded, and in the second stage it is planned to open programs in biomedicine and biotechnology. The rich scientific and practical experience of Xinhua University in the field of medicine will also contribute to practical interaction with the FEFU Medical Center.

It should be noted that the Far Eastern Federal University is actively working in the field of international relations, strengthening its position as the flagship of Russian education in the Asia-Pacific region. FEFU's international partner network includes more than 300 educational institutions, 162 of which are located in Asia. According to the university program, until 2030, FEFU sees internationalization of education and increasing the academic reputation of the university abroad as one of its priorities.
