A meeting was held at the Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) between representatives of the FEFU Polytechnic Institute and a delegation from the Institute of Material Science at Jiangsu University from the People's Republic of China (PRC). The parties discussed the possibilities of developing academic mobility between university students and faculty, as well as the launch of research projects in the field of material science and advanced welding technologies.

A delegation from the Institute of Material Science of Jiangsu University visited the laboratories of the FEFU Polytechnic Institute. While getting acquainted with the advanced developments of Far Eastern researchers, Chinese representatives became interested in scientific and technical projects in the areas of “Advanced technologies of welding and related processes” and “Traditional and novel structural and functional materials.” Colleagues from Jiangsu University also showed interest in the development of academic mobility of students and faculty, as well as in the development of joint educational programs and online courses.

“Despite the fact that our universities are geographically located quite far from each other, we are very close - we are united by priority areas of research projects. We are very pleased that we will be able to open new areas of cooperation with FEFU,” said Lu Sheng, director of the Institute of Material Science at Jiangsu University.

“Scientists from China and the Far Eastern Federal University have a long-term relationship in the field of joint engineering research. At the moment, all these projects are returning to the active phase after the pandemic, and I would like us to start working even more intensively, including with Jiangsu University. Joint research will allow our research teams to get closer to practical results as quickly as possible,” says Vyacheslav Seleznev, director of the FEFU Polytechnic Institute.

As part of the “Advanced Welding Technologies and Related Processes,” educational direction the parties intend to develop friction stir welding technologies, laser, plasma and diffusion welding, robotization of welding and cutting processes, as well as 3D metal printing technologies. The subject of research in the area related to structural and functional materials will be high-strength and cold-resistant steels and alloys, composites and ceramics.

FEFU's scientific and educational interaction with partners from the Asia-Pacific region (APR) is ensured through the university's "Eastern Vector" policy, the goal of which is to expand ties with Asian countries, strengthening FEFU's position as an export leader in the scientific and educational markets of the Asia-Pacific region.

“Recognizability and stable academic ties with leading universities in the Asia-Pacific region allow FEFU to integrate into this promising region, developing scientific and academic projects with partners from friendly countries that correspond to the tasks of innovative development of our country,” noted FEFU Vice President for International Relations Evgeny Vlasov.

Let us remind you that as part of their scientific activities, scientists from FEFU and Asian countries are conducting joint research in several fields at once - medicine, information technology, material science. The “Eastern Vector” policy involves not only the launch of scientific laboratories and advanced innovation infrastructure, but also the formation of an integrated system for attracting and professionally developing the young scientists from all over the world in the Far East.
