The first overseas FEFU Representative Office opened at Tokai University in Japan

The first foreign representative office of Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) was opened at Tokai University (Japan, Tokyo) on October 29. The new division will contribute to the expansion of academic exchanges, the launch of joint educational programs and the strengthening of ties between Russia and Japan.

The ceremony was attended by Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation - Presidential Envoy to the Far Eastern Federal District Yury Trutnev, FEFU President Nikita Anisimov, Tokai University President Kiyoshi Yamada, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russia to Japan Mikhail Galuzin.

The office of Far Eastern Federal University in Tokyo will serve as the navigator for educational cooperation between Russia and Japan. The representative office will act as a “communicator” for FEFU to work with Japanese universities, government, and business, a center for attracting students, a platform for the development of research projects and the transfer of technological products.

“Far Eastern Federal University is the base university of the Russian Far East. President Vladimir Putin declared the development of the Russian Far East a national priority. Opening FEFU office at Tokai University has a great significance. We all live in a competitive world. In this competition, the winner is the one who thinks about the future. And the future is precisely the qualification, skills, and abilities of those people who are studying today and who will ensure the development and progress of Russia and Japan tomorrow”, said Deputy Prime Minister Yury Trutnev.

“Relations between Russia and Japan in recent years are the best in their history. The active development of global economic processes is steadily leading to the globalization of education. The work of the representative office will contribute to the formation of a unified educational space in the Asia-Pacific region, it will develop exchange programs for students and professors, launch joint educational programs, conduct research and other projects”, said FEFU President Nikita Anisimov.

FEFU and Tokai University have been partners since 1989. Due to the increased attention of Presidents over the past two years, cooperation has reached a fundamentally new level. In 2017, universities jointly opened an international judo club at FEFU. In 2018, a large-scale exchange program was launched, Tokai University research vessel “Bosai Maru” visited Vladivostok. Within the framework of the IV Eastern Economic Forum in FEFU, the first office of Tokai University in Russia was solemnly opened. Universities are already implementing a joint project to improve the quality of life of the two countries. It is planned to launch double-degree programs, to conduct research in the field of climate studies, genomic medicine and laser technologies.

Far Eastern Federal University is intensively developing relations with Japan, partnership agreements have been concluded with more than 40 universities and research centers, and academic exchanges and research are being conducted. A great deal of experience has been gained in interacting with business structures: together with the Mitsubishi Corporation, Center for the Study of Russian-Japanese Relations. Since 1994, about. Hokkaido has a branch of FEFU, the only branch of a Russian university in Japan, which serves as a center for training specialists with knowledge of the Russian language and the promotion of Russian culture.
