Far East Federal University (FEFU) will conduct an experiment to defend theses in the startup format this year. The FEFU Interim President Nikita Anisimov told about this to ITAR-TASS News Agency.

“In 2017, FEFU plans to arrange for the defense of theses in the startup format on an experimental basis. There are successful technology entrepreneurs among our undergraduates and graduates, including those in the field of information technologies, who are already residents of the Skolkovo Foundation. We believe that for such students the best confirmation of their high qualification will be the creation of their own successful business,” said Nikita Anisimov.

According to him, modern universities, being focused on shaping the innovation environment, get new opportunities to meet the challenges of modernizing the Russian economy; and the procedure for conducting state final certification of higher education programs allows the university to independently determine the type of graduation degree thesis.

“FEFU is focused on creating an effective system of support for student entrepreneurial projects, from ideas to their implementation. Upon their graduation from the university, we will be able to receive not just graduates but full-fledged residents of the technology cluster, which is created on Russky Island. As a result, another equally important task is being solved: self-realization of FEFU graduates and retention of talented youth in the Far East,” said the Interim President.

This year, FEFU started a business incubator, which was established in collaboration with the Far East Office of the Skolkovo Foundation. Today, work is under way to organize the the joint work areas (coworking zones). The business incubator offers a variety of services and project support for students' entrepreneurial activity.
