Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU), Chukotka Mining and Geological Company, a member of the Kinross Gold group of companies, and the FEFU Endowment Fund signed a memorandum of intent.

It is planned in the context of cooperation to conduct practical training for FEFU undergraduate, postgraduate students and research associates at the unique Kupol Mine (Chukotka Autonomous Okrug), lectures from Kinross Gold practitioners, joint activities to promote gender diversification in the mining industry. In addition, the parties agreed to consider the possibility of developing cooperation in promising joint projects, including the involvement of FEFU faculty and students to analyze the company's contribution to the socio-economic development of the region. 

The memorandum was signed following meetings between the management of Kinross Gold Corporation, the university and the FEFU Endowment Foundation, which took place on the margins of the Eastern Economic Forum in 2017, and subsequent negotiations in Moscow.

“This is a significant step towards our cooperation with Far Eastern Federal University and the FEFU Endowment Foundation,” said Claude Shimper, Russia's Regional Vice-President at Kinross Gold Corporation. “Starting from 2018, thanks to this interaction, university students will have an excellent opportunity to familiarize in practice with the work of one of the leading mining companies in the Russian Far East.”

“Kinross Gold Corporation is the largest international investor in the gold mining industry of this country. Training of personnel for such enterprises is one of the key priorities for our university,” explained the FEFU President Nikita Anisimov. “We look forward to a long and fruitful cooperation.”

“The development and support of the interdisciplinary competences of FEFU in the Arctic sphere is an important goal for the University and the FEFU Endowment Foundation,” said Igor Osipov, the chair of the FEFU Endowment Foundation Board, the Advisor to the FEFU President. “In our experience, direct interaction with large industrial companies is the best way to partnership, obtaining unique experience and expertise of Kinross Gold Corporation on working in Arctic conditions. We see that the company is ready to give serious attention to cooperation and social responsibility in the regions of its presence.” 

Kinross Gold Corporation is a Canadian gold mining company with projects in Russia, Brazil, Chile, Ghana, Mauritania, and the USA. It has been working in the Russian Federation since 1995 and is currently the largest international investor in the gold mining industry of the country, as well as the largest Canadian investor in the Russian economy and one of the largest taxpayers in the Russian Far East.
