The 22nd conference of the Asian Science Park Association (ASPA) will be held at Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) on October 3-5, 2018. Russia will host such event for the first time and it will gather more than 500 top managers of technology parks and business incubators, universities, venture companies and foundations, and innovative enterprises. The main theme of the conference will be the impact of global trends on the development of technology parks in the Asia-Pacific region. The organizers are ASPA, Skolkovo Foundation, and FEFU.

According to Vladimir Solodov, Deputy Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of the Russian Federation in the Far Eastern Federal District, holding of such events is included in the list of priority measures for the development of the Far East.

“We hope that the conference will allow us to take a practical step towards attracting our partners from the Asia-Pacific region, which are engaged in high technologies, to the development of the region. In addition to discussing the prospects and trends in the development of technology parks, we are planning to present the opportunities of the Far East. We hope that a large number of participating technology companies will make a decision to implement investment projects in the field of high technologies in the region,” said Vladimir Solodov.

The conference participants will discuss trends in the development of technology parks and knowledge-intensive industries, globalization, the role of technology parks as the driving forces of urban and regional development, the interaction of innovation sites with various institutions. The ASPA Awards Ceremony and ASPA board meeting are also planned in FEFU.

“By gathering leading representatives of the high-tech industry of the Asia-Pacific region, we ensure the development of Russky Island and Far Eastern Federal University with an emphasis on innovation," said Ilya Yaskov, FEFU Deputy Vice President for Development. "The university and the Skolkovo Foundation are now actively forming an innovative infrastructure in the Far East, have launched the Technopark Russky Project, and the best practices of Asian colleagues will be extremely useful for the development of technological entrepreneurship in the university, region, and the country as a whole.”

As the vice-president for regional and international development of the Skolkovo Foundation Yury Saprykin said, the foundation and FEFU won the right to hold a conference following the results of the competition, by competing with the research centers of Singapore, the Republic of Korea, and Malaysia.

“Such an event in Russia will be held for the first time. For us it is, on the one hand, a great honor, and on the other hand—the recognition of the Skolkovo Foundation's achievements in the Far East, the work of the government and plenipotentiary representation in the Far East,” Yuri Saprykin said.

ASPA was founded in 1997 in Japan for the joint development of scientific technologies, industry, and economy of the Asian region. Today the association unites 519 technoparks in 36 countries, including 18 Russian ones.
