Aug 12, 2019 - International cooperation
Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) and Amity University (India) have agreed to cross open the representative offices of their universities. At the same time, the Joint Center for Yoga will be established at FEFU as well as the Pushkin Center for Russian Language and Culture Studies at Amity University. The parties agreed on the respective intentions with an agreement signed by FEFU President Nikita Anisimov and Amity University Group Vice Chancellor Gurinder Singh in the presence of the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation and Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy to the Far Eastern Federal District Yury Trutnev.
The development of educational ties between Russia and India was discussed during the visit of the Indian delegation to the FEFU campus on August 12. The parties continued the dialogue that started in June this year at the visiting session of Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) in India, following which the President of FEFU Nikita Anisimov made proposals to intensify Russian-Indian cooperation in education, science, and high technology.
“We are developing cooperation with the Republic of India and we plan to expand this interaction. In June in New Delhi, we reached an agreement on cross-opening of representative offices with one of the largest and most dynamically developing universities in India – Amity University, and just a few months later we signed an agreement on this,” commented the FEFU President.
As Nikita Anisimov stated earlier, Far Eastern Federal University is ready to become one of the centers of scientific, educational and technological cooperation between Russia and India. There are all the prerequisites for this, including long experience of interaction and the interest of Indian students and scientists in studying and implementing joint projects.
It should be noted that 203 Indian students are currently studying at FEFU, most of them are pursuing the “General Medicine” specialist degree program. At the same time, the Department of Pacific Asia of the FEFU Institute of Oriental Studies – School of Regional and International Studies is training unique specialists studying India with knowledge of Hindi.
Far Eastern Federal University plays an important role in strengthening scientific, educational and cultural ties between Russia and India, especially in the context of the geopolitical position of Vladivostok. In connection with the planned participation of the Prime Minister of India – Narendra Modi in the 5th Eastern Economic Forum, which will be held at the FEFU campus on September 4-6, 2019, a new impetus in the development of bilateral Russian-Indian relations is expected.
In addition, Far Eastern Federal University has been participating in the Project 5-100 among the leading Russian universities since 2014, where it successfully implements a comprehensive plan to improve international competitiveness. FEFU’s dynamic development is confirmed by its strengthened position in world rankings and increased attractiveness among international students.
