Hong Seok-hyun, Special Envoy of South Korean President in the United States, CEO of JoongAng Ilbo media holding company, became Honorary Doctor of Law of Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU). The solemn ceremony of presenting a personal diploma and a commemorative award was held by Nikita Anisimov, FEFU Interim President, on September 20 during the opening of the 3rd Pacific Law Forum.

“It is a great honor for Far Eastern Federal University to welcome an outstanding diplomat and researcher among the honorary doctors of the School of Law,” said Nikita Anisimov. “At the recent Eastern Economic Forum, the presidents of Russia and the Republic of Korea paid special attention to the development of humanitarian ties between our countries. We are sure that today's significant event will give impetus to cooperation, new academic, research, and cultural projects.”

“Far Eastern Federal University today is becoming a key platform for the development of Russian-Korean cooperation. I congratulate the university on the achievements in research and education in recent years and I thank you for the honor of becoming an honorary doctor of law,” said Hong Seok-hyun.

Hong Seok-hyun is a chairman and owner of the largest media group in the Republic of Korea, which includes the country's most popular newspapers and television channels. Under his leadership, JoongAng Ilbo became the key holding company in the country and one of the strongest in the Asia-Pacific region. After receiving his doctorate at Stanford University (USA), Hong Seok-hyun worked in the World Bank, the Government, and the close entourage of the President of the Republic of Korea.

The 3rd Pacific Law Forum brought together more than 180 lawyers, scholars and experts from Russia, China, the Republic of Korea, the United States, and Japan to FEFU. On the forum's agenda are the legal issues of Arctic development, the development of the Northern Sea Route and the Silk Sea Route, corruption crime prevention, terrorism and extremism in the countries of the Asia-Pacific region, and protecting wildlife. The forum has been organized by the FEFU School of Law.
