The Association of International Students will be established at Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU). The participants of the meeting with the FEFU Interim President Nikita Anisimov voted for such decision on March 9. The new public organization will unite all foreign nationals at the leading university in the Far East of Russia, will help them to adapt in a new country and university environment.

"I'm glad each of you wants to become a part of our family, our international student fraternity. Far Eastern Federal University is a large university; more than 3,200 international students are studying here. It is important for you to be united by one organization, thanks to which you will become even more active participants in the rich student life of the University," said Nikita Anisimov in support of the students' decision.

The Working Group was approved for drafting constituent documents of the Association, which includes representatives from China, Vietnam, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, India, Mongolia, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Cameroon, and Venezuela. Jointly with the International Relations Office students from different countries will draft the Association charter documents and submit them for approval by the FEFU Academic Council.

At the meeting, Nikita Anisimov noted that international students are already actively involved in different spheres of the University's life. They speak at scientific conferences, participate in research projects and creative teams, organize cultural events, and defend the honor of the University in sports events. So, the most popular event in 2016 was the Days of Interethnic Student Unity, and the primary victory was the first place won by the FEFU team in the Primorye Regional Sports and Athletic Competition among international students. The Interim President presented certificates of acknowledgment and gifts to those who most clearly manifested themselves in science, sports, creative activities, and social life.

Also at the meeting, students were able to get answers to their questions about the organization of the educational process and life on campus. A number of relevant topics for discussion emerged in the course of communication with the Interim President, for example, on the financing of student trips for participation in public and scientific events outside the region. Nikita Anisimov said that international students may apply for travel grants through the FEFU Department of Youth Policy in the same way as Russians.

Far Eastern Federal University is rapidly gaining popularity in the world. Today, more than 3,200 students from 52 countries study at FEFU. The vast majority of them—56% of all international students—are from the Asia-Pacific region. In recent years, the number of applicants to FEFU from Latin America and Africa has increased several folds, and countries such as Chad, Syria, Zambia, Cameroon, Cote d’Ivoire, Brazil, Afghanistan, Lebanon, and Zimbabwe have appeared on the world map of the University students.
