Unique Christmas and New Year tree toys are put on display at the FEFU Museum

Over 300 Christmas and New Year toys and postcards of pre-revolutionary and Soviet periods are put on display at the Education and science museum of the Far Eastern Federal University. The exhibition is composed of the items of the repository collection of the FEFU Historical museum, personal collections of the university employees and other local residents.

Museum keepers point out to the fact that it is easy to track the history of the country and to identify its important events by just looking at the Christmas and New Year tree toys. While the toys made before the Russian revolution displayed the Bible scenes, Soviet years’ toys reflected the ideology of those times.

Alexander Popov, Director of the FEFU Education and science museum:

“We would want younger generations to compare decorations used on the Christmas trees now and those ones used 50-100 years ago. I am convinced that at the exhibition visitors would recall years of their childhood and adolescence.”
