It has now become possible to remove benign neoplasms of the mammary glands without surgery at the Medical Center of the Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU MC). An alternative to surgical treatment is vacuum aspiration resection (VAR). This method allows to completely get rid of fibroadenomas, cysts, intraductal papillomas, and other tumors in the chest area through a skin puncture two millimeters in size under ultrasound control.

“Today, VAR is the only modern solution for the complete removal of one or more breast tumors using the EnCore device. The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia, which has a positive effect on the psychological comfort of patients,” said Alexandra Dey, oncology surgeon, mammologist at the FEFU Medical Center.

In addition to the obvious advantages of the treatment, the procedure lasts from 15 to 30 minutes and there is the complete preservation of the aesthetic shape of the breast promised. According to specialists, this method is suitable for patients of all ages, especially women planning to breastfeed, since the milk ducts are not damaged during the procedure.

The experts of the Russian Association of Mammologists recommend this modern minimally invasive VAR method, noting that after this procedure there are no cosmetic defects and there is no need for suture removal, in contrast to the previously used sectoral resection with excision of a skin area. In addition, the treatment does not require a long rehabilitation, after the procedure, women are observed for an hour and then discharged.
