XI International festival “This is my mother tongue!” was held in the Far Eastern Federal University and it was traditionally dedicated to the International Mother Language day. Students from three FEFU Institutes and Schools as well as FEFU Center of Russian Language and Culture (CRLC) course attendees from 16 countries participated in the event. During the festival students had a chance to present their native language and culture.

The festival was arranged by the Department of Russian as a foreign language, Oriental Institute – School of Regional and International Studies (SRIS) and FEFU Center of Russian Language and Culture as well.

The event brought together representatives from 16 countries, such as Vietnam, Zambia, Indonesia, Kenya, China, DPRK, Colombia, Mozambique, Mongolia, Namibia, Nigeria, Republic of Korea, Russia, Togo, Ecuador and Ethiopia. Each participant presented their Mother tongue and cultural traditions: recited verses and poems, performed national songs and dances, participated in the traditional costumes defile, and displayed specificities of their native language and culture. The event united 37 participants speaking 14 different languages.

"For the eleventh time, we are bringing together representatives of diverse cultures from all over the world studying at FEFU. By organizing this festival, we aim to provide our students with an opportunity to reconnect with their cultures, while being far from home. Having come from all across the world to Russia and spending several years here, they celebrate many national holidays away from their motherland. At our festival, they can proudly share their culture and languages as well as get a glance of others. Thus, at FEFU patriotism goes hand in hand with multinational unity. And we are glad to take part in this process!" shared the professor from the Department of Russian as a foreign language at the SRIS, Alyona Fadeeva.

“Over the years, FEFU has developed traditions of social adaptation of international students, designed both for distinct ethnic communities and for international ones. Our task is to help every pupil become a part of the student community and immerse themselves in the eventful university life. Russian volunteers and just initiative students, interested in the mechanisms of social adaptation, are actively taking part in this work. Thanks to this, FEFU is becoming a multicultural environment, where everyone can feel like a part of one big family,” underlined FEFU Vice President for International Relations, Evgeny E. Vlasov.

It is worth mentioning that the International festival “This is my Mother tongue!” has already been held for 11 years. Far Eastern Federal University actively engages in the field of international relations, strengthening its position in the vanguard of Russian education in the Asia-Pacific region. International partner network of FEFU includes more than 300 educational institutions, 162 of which are located in Asia. According to the university program, one of the prior tasks of FEFU is internationalization of education and increasing academic reputation abroad by 2030. Thanks to its wide range of contacts and expertise, the university intends to secure leadership among other Russian universities as a point of the closest proximity to countries and cultures of the Asia-Pacific Region.
