China Book Centre has been opened at the Far Eastern Federal University. The Chinese delegation donated 500 books to the new centre.

China Book Centre was opened at FEFU at the initiative of the China International Communications Group (CICG). This is the twelfth book centre established by the media corporation abroad. According to the company's deputy director Lu Cairong, the donated editions correspond to the preferences of local readers and are dedicated to politics, economics, culture of China and other areas of knowledge.

“I want to share a small historical discovery that we made at the FEFU Library. Far Eastern Federal University is the successor of the Oriental Institute. The library is the same age as the university. We found that one of the first book collections that appeared in the Oriental Institute Library in 1900 was from Hunchun. It contained books on Chinese history and the Chinese language. After 122 years, we again receive a collection of books from China. This once again confirms that Russia is ready to cooperate, carry out scientific projects, research, cultural exchanges with China, and the Far Eastern Federal University here can act as a mediator in the east between two countries, ”said Sergey Solovyov, director of the FEFU Scientific Library.

“The Book Centre can become a Russian-Chinese platform for cultural exchange, where students will be able to organize and spend traditional holidays, study different aspects of culture and language. We hope that the establishment of the Centre will strengthen cooperation with the Far Eastern Federal University, and promote the development of joint research and culture,” said Lu Cairong.

It should be noted that in 2013, the Federal Agency for Press and Mass Media of the Russian Federation and the State Administration for Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television of the People's Republic of China signed a "Memorandum of Cooperation on the project of mutual translation of classical and modern literary works". The parties agreed that at least 100 works of the two countries would be translated within six years. In 2017, China and Russia entered into an agreement on the annual mutual translation of a library of 50 books.

The Oriental Institute of the Far Eastern Federal University is engaged in the promotion of Chinese literature in Russia. In 2017 and 2022, two projects were implemented in the field of translating Chinese authors into Russian in cooperation with publishing houses in Moscow and St. Petersburg. A collection of works by contemporary Chinese authors “Papapa. Modern Chinese Short Novel" and the collection "A Dream Colored of Cinnabar" by the Chinese writer of the first half of the 20th century Shen Congwen.
