Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU), Sber PJSC and Vietnam National University (VNU) will open the Russian-Vietnamese Artificial Intelligence (AI) Center in Hanoi, Vietnam in October 2023. The corresponding agreement was signed by FEFU President Boris Korobets, head of VNU Le Quan and Senior Managing Director of Sberbank Oleg Kapitonov at the meeting of the Russian-Vietnamese Intergovernmental Commission.

On April 6, Vietnam hosted a regular meeting of the Russian-Vietnamese Intergovernmental Commission. During the plenary session, the parties discussed a wide range of issues of cooperation between the two countries. The Russian delegation was headed by Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Chernyshenko. The event resulted in the signing of intergovernmental agreements, including an agreement between FEFU, Sberbank and Vietnam National University.

“Joint research in the field of artificial intelligence between PJSC Sberbank, Far Eastern Federal University and VNU will create the necessary intellectual infrastructure, form a mechanism for the exchange of technologies in the field of AI, and train personnel for this industry from both sides. The Russian-Vietnamese Center for Artificial Intelligence, which will be subsequently created by the signing parties, will become a showcase of technological and digital solutions from Russia and Vietnam for companies and organizations of our countries, which will certainly contribute to trade and economic cooperation,” Dmitry Chernyshenko emphasized.

The parties discussed promising areas of work of the Center for Artificial Intelligence - joint educational programs and applied research with the participation of Vietnamese technology companies. The AI Center will be opened at the Institute of Information Technology of Vietnam National University in October this year.

“During the work of the intergovernmental commission, we agreed on a substantive agenda for interaction on artificial intelligence research, an action plan for the opening and operation of the Artificial Intelligence Center. Here we can talk about joint practice-oriented research for the real sector, educational programs and internships for our young scientists and students from Vietnam and Russia. I am sure that this year we will demonstrate the results of our joint activities,” said FEFU President Boris Korobets.

“With the signing of this agreement, our partnership with FEFU receives another vector for development. Since 2018, we have been training professionals in the field of AI and big data together, since last year we have been conducting scientific research at the Far East Center for Artificial Intelligence, and now we are entering the international level and, together with Vietnam National University, are opening the first Russian-Vietnamese AI Center in Hanoi. Joint training programs and applied developments by Russian and Vietnamese specialists will accelerate progress in this area and strengthen relations between the two countries,” said Alexander Vedyakhin, First Deputy Chairman of the Management Board of Sberbank.

Recall that in 2018, FEFU opened a representative office in the city of Hanoi on the basis of VNU. The Socialist Republic of Vietnam is one of the priority strategic partners of FEFU in the Asia-Pacific region. The university has more than thirty years of experience in cooperation with educational, scientific, government and commercial institutions in Vietnam, and is also the only university in Siberia and the Far East where Vietnamese studies are presented as an independent educational and research area.
