More than 3,500 international students from 74 countries study at Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) in the 2018-2019 academic year. More than 60% of students are citizens of APR countries, where FEFU acts as an outpost of Russian education and science.

According to the data provided by the Office of Vice-President for International Relations, 1094 applicants from 51 countries were enrolled at FEFU as the results of the 2018 admission campaign. Some countries are new for FEFU, so citizens of Costa Rica, Madagascar, Gambia, Georgia, Panama, Paraguay, Rwanda, Poland, El Salvador and the Comoros have entered FEFU for the first time in history.

Traditionally, a large flow of foreign students is from China, Indonesia, Korea, Vietnam, Colombia, the CIS countries. This year, the most popular educational programs were Medicin e, Economics, Management, International Relations, Oil and Gas. Currently, foreign students from 74 countries are getting their education at FEFU, whereas the last year admissions campaign results gave a different number, the leading university of the region accepted representatives from 67 countries.

Victoria Panova, FEFU Vice-President for International Relations says: “A whole range of vocational guidance activities contributed to the successful recruitment of foreign students, it includes participation in educational exhibitions, advertising on the Internet and the media, working with recruiting agencies. At the same time, in my opinion, it is especially important to conduct adaptation measures aimed at the inclusion of foreign students in the corporate multicultural environment of the university, the creation of tolerance and a friendly atmosphere”.

Competitions and summer schools also help attract foreign applicants. After two or three weeks at the university, many students decide to continue their education there. Earlier, the university co-organized an international competition for foreign students in a number of areas.
