Victoria Panova, FEFU Vice-President for International Relations, took part in the work of the BRICS Russia Organizing Committee Expert Council. The meeting was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation in Moscow with the participation of Sergey Ryabkov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sherpa of the Russian Federation in BRICS.

The Expert Council started to prepare advisory and analytical materials and came up with exact initiatives to promote cooperation among the BRICS countries. The first results of the substantive work of the association were presented by Victoria Panova, Scientific Supervisor of the Expert Council, who reported on proposals for the development of BRICS cooperation in the fields of trade and investment, energy, security, environmental protection, education, and technological development. Moreover, a list of key events along with the BRICS academic and civil track was also presented.

“The Expert Council will work with maximum efficiency to ensure the organization of the Russian Federation’s Presidency in BRICS, as this is one of the priorities of our country's foreign policy and key factors of influence in the international arena”, said Victoria Panova, FEFU Vice-President for International Relations, Scientific Supervisor of the BRICS Russia Organizing Committee Expert Council.


Sergey Ryabkov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation held a briefing for experts of the Council, talking about priority areas of work and key events within the framework of the Russian Federation’s Presidency in BRICS in 2020. He also expressed hope that the Council, in close cooperation with Russian departments, will fulfill its tasks and that the Russian Federation’s Presidency will be successful within the framework of BRICS.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation supported the decision of the Organizing Committee to prepare and ensure the Russian Federation’s Presidency in Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and BRICS to create the Expert Council. This is the first experience of this kind of interaction with the expert community. I am sure that a significant intellectual resource and organizational potential contribute to a successful year of our Presidency”, said Sergey Ryabkov.

The main objective of the BRICS Russia Organizing Committee Expert Council is to organize and conduct research, create expert platforms, study substantive issues of ensuring the activities of Russia in BRICS, study strategies of developing countries and new international formats.

It should be noted that FEFU, in honor of the Russian Federation’s Presidency in 2020, launches BRICS Educational Internship Programme for students from Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, where young people from five countries can study together as part of educational programs that are popular and relevant for BRICS. The program will facilitate academic and cultural exchange aimed at intensifying social and humanitarian cooperation, strengthening dialogue and mutual understanding between BRICS countries.
