Students of the Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) won awards in the IV Poetry Recitation Contest for students and postgraduates from Asian and African countries “Victory in the Hearts of Generations”. Students from China represented the university in the international arena and won the title of Laureate of the 1st degree and took a special prize. The winners and prize-winners of the IV Poetry Recitation Contest were awarded at the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation in Moscow.

In total, foreign students from 61 countries submitted more than 500 applications for the competition. Representatives of Africa, Asia, Europe and South America took part in the IV Poetry Recitation Contest. The contestants performed with the works of Russian poets: Anna Akhmatova, Konstantin Simonov, Andrey Dementiev, Robert Rozhdestvensky, Bulat Okudzhava and other authors who wrote about the war.

For the transparency of the competition, students were divided into groups depending on the level of training and the course of study. Russian-speaking students from the CIS countries were assigned to a separate group.

“Our students are participating in the “Victory in the Hearts of Generations” contest for the first time‎. The result made us very happy. We are proud that our foreign students show interest in reading poems by Russian poets, and teachers support them in this,” said Liliana Voronova, head of the Department of Russian as a Foreign Language, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor, Head of the Master’s Program “Russian as a Foreign Language”.

From the Far Eastern Federal University, Wang Quanbin, a 4th year student in the direction of "International Relations" of the Oriental Institute - School of Regional and International Studies, took part in the competition. Under the guidance of Yulia Pavlova, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Russian as a Foreign Language of the Far Eastern Federal University, the student was able to speak with the poem "In the photo in the newspaper" by the poetess Rimma Kazakova. The graceful recitation earned Wang Quanbin the 1st degree laureate.

“Despite the fact that Quanbin speaks excellent Russian, we rehearsed a lot and practiced our reading technique. We worked on the correct pronunciation of individual sounds, we wanted to accurately convey the mood of the poem and its meaning, to show the depth of the work with intonation and gestures, which is quite difficult for foreigners,” says Yulia Pavlova.

Another participant from FEFU is Bai Yiming, a 3rd year student in Business Management at the School of Economics and Management. The student performed with a poem by Alexander Tvardovsky "Vasily Terkin: 21. Death and the Warrior." Thanks to the support and training of Olga Batraeva, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Russian as a Foreign Language, FEFU, the student was able to win a special prize.
