On July 27 Russian cuisine master-class was held for the participants of the Vladivostok–Yanji Friendship Bridge International Summer School in Far Eastern Federal University. 30 students from Yanbian University (China) learned to cook the traditional Russian dish of oriental origin under the guidance of the FEFU experienced cooks.

FEFU Student Catering Facility employees Svetlana Penkova, Galina Vasilyeva and Svetlana Yatsenyuk told about the simple and unchanged for hundreds of years recipe, stages of dough and filling preparation, as well as the traditions of cooking pelmeni (meat dumplings), which almost every Russian family keeps. Folding a few dozen dumplings ended in a friendly tasting and discussing what is different about this Russian dish from the traditional for Chinese students wontons and jiaozi.

The first in 2016 FEFU Summer School opened on July 19. For three weeks the students of Yanbian University have delved into the study of the Russian language and Russian culture. The Summer School is conducted by the International Education Department jointly with the Russian Language and Culture Center of the FEFU Oriental Institute–School of Regional and International Studies.

The days of stay of Chinese students at the University were mapped out to the last five-minute increment. In the first half of the day they study grammar and vocabulary of the ‘great and mighty Russian language’ under the guidance of the Russian Language and Culture Center teachers. A rich educational program of the School is complemented by the acquaintance with Russian traditions, culture and folklore, boat and bicycle rides, sightseeing tours across the city, and other recreational and educational activities.

International summer schools are one of the most effective ways of attracting international students to Far Eastern Federal University, when future applicants learn the language, Russian culture, listen to lectures of the leading academics, and get acquainted with the University and country. Today the representatives of 48 countries are studying at FEFU and many of them are those who made this decision after participating in one of such summer schools.

Far Eastern Federal University is focused on the internationalization of the university and its development as a leading center of the Russian Studies in the Asia-Pacific region. The target figures of attracting international students are approved by the FEFU Competitiveness Enhancement Program (5top100 Project), according to which the number of international students at the university shall amount to 30% of the total student body by 2020.
