Oleg Pak: FEFU Medical Center is ready to compete with leading clinics in the Asia-Pacific region

Oleg Pak FEFU Vice President for Medical Affairs took part in the All-Russian Tourism Forum in Khabarovsk. He presented the medical cluster of the Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU), discussed the challenges in the healthcare system development and growth points for medical organizations in the Russian Far East.

The main topic of the business session was the development of medical tourism, as well as the prospects for cooperation between medical organizations and health resorts in the macroregion.

“Of course, we are working to attract foreign tourists, but we are even more interested in the import of medical services. To this end, FEFU is constantly working to expand areas of expertise, improve service provided, attract business and foreign capital. Thanks to the diverse nature of our clinic and a multidisciplinary approach to treating patients, we can compete with leading clinics in Asia-Pacific region and reduce the outflow of Russian consumers to hospitals in Korea, Singapore and Japan,” emphasized Oleg Pak.

One of the points of the presentation was the issue of personnel training. Oleg Pak shared the projects being implemented at the FEFU School of Medicine.

“To train a great doctor today, you need not 6-7 years of study, but at least 12. And we are working on this: we start from school two years before university and continue mentoring graduates in our clinic, where young doctors get tremendous experience. We provide an employment opportunity to the best of them,” he shared.

Summing up the speech, the Vice President highlighted the problems of medical ethics. In his opinion, the mutual respect of medical personnel both within the clinic and the attitude towards colleagues from other medical institutions directly affects the level of patient satisfaction with the quality of the medical service provided at every stage.

“It is necessary to radically change the attitude within the entire medical system. Despite all our projects and implementations, the most important remains to be the patient. They are our main employer. Without this understanding, it makes no sense to talk about the benefits and development of medical tourism in general,” said Oleg Pak.

The FEFU Medical Center provides high-tech assistance, carries out diagnostics and rehabilitation of patients based on the latest developments in the field of medicine, and acts as a platform for advanced training of specialists from all over the region. The clinic operates in 24 areas: neurosurgery, gynecology, oncology, traumatology and thoracic surgery, cardiac surgery and others.
