The organizers of the Russia–Far East International Summer School in Far Eastern Federal University use a variety of and sometimes even imaginative ways of familiarizing international students with Russian culture. The regular lesson was devoted to the history of Russian rock, where through the creativity of music groups the students have learned many interesting facts about the history of the country.

The teacher of the FEFU Russian Language and Culture Center Julia Prokopenko told the Summer School students about the history of the origin of Russian rock and idols of millions of Russians. International students got acquainted with song lyrics and were able to perform the hits of Kino, DDT, Mummy Troll, and Zemfira groups. The biography of musicians allowed the students to discuss the political and social processes in Russia in past years, and the analysis of the texts conveyed the importance of rhythm, rhyme, and phonetic patterns in Russian.

"It was interesting to learn about the establishment of the first amateur association of musicians—Rock Club—in Leningrad, songs about 'perestroika' and changes in your country. I've already heard these works, but only after this lesson realized what meaning the authors intended in them," said German student Tim Wittmann.

Russia–Far East International Summer School is being held in Far Eastern Federal University from August 8th to 26th for 40 students from 12 countries. Most of the students came from Japan and Germany, joined by the representatives of China, the Republic of Korea, Singapore, Austria, Spain, France, Poland, Montenegro, Colombia, and Morocco. A rich educational program is provided on the 'Russian Language and Culture' and 'Internal and External Policy of Russia. North East Asia', combined with various sightseeing tours and entertainment.

Russia–Far East Summer School is held for the fourth time, but this year it has become the most multinational one. FEFU implements the project with the support by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and Mitsui Corporation (Japan).
