A government delegation from the Republic of the Union of Myanmar led by Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Transport and Communications Mya Tun U visited the Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) during the VIII Eastern Economic Forum (EEF). During the meeting, the parties agreed to expand cooperation in the fields of education, science and cultural exchanges. Representatives of the government delegation were told about the role of the Far Eastern Federal University in intensifying the dialogue between Russia and Myanmar.

“Of course, FEFU’s mission is to become a window for interaction between Russia and Asia, and we are already actively cooperating with Myanmar in the field of science and education, preparing a solid foundation for mutually beneficial long-term projects in the field of business and innovation. The university actively supports initiatives to popularize relations between the Russian Far East and the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, therefore it is always open to new formats of dialogue between our countries,” emphasized FEFU Vice President for International Relations Evgeny Vlasov.

He also noted that last year the university signed memorandums with the Mandalay University of Foreign Languages and the Ministry of Health of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar on the training of doctors for Myanmar on the basis of the FEFU Medical Center.

The project to create a FEFU branch in Southeast Asia will be one of the steps in the implementation of the “Eastern Vector” policy, the task of which is to create at FEFU a key center of competence in Oriental Studies in Russia and strengthen the position of the flagship of Russian education in the Asia-Pacific region. The FEFU branch will become not only a place for training highly qualified specialists, but also a comprehensive point of Russian presence in the country - it will accumulate business projects and develop bilateral trade and economic activities.

Guests from the Republic of the Union of Myanmar toured the campus and visited the Far Eastern Center for Artificial Intelligence (AI), opened jointly by FEFU and PJSC Sberbank. During the excursion, delegates were told about the creation of the Russian-Vietnamese Artificial Intelligence Center in Hanoi and the first projects in the field of AI, which specialists from FEFU, Sberbank and Hanoi State University are working on. Scientists plan to develop artificial intelligence models to achieve sustainable development goals.

Following the visit, Mya Tun U highly appreciated the educational potential and scale of scientific research of the Far Eastern Federal University and wished new successes and continuation of fruitful work for the benefit of strengthening friendship and mutual understanding between Russia and Myanmar.

It should be noted that the core of the FEFU partner network consists of universities and scientific organizations from friendly Asian countries. Thanks to a wide network of contacts and expert reserves, the university intends to consolidate its leadership among Russian universities as a point of maximum proximity to the countries and cultures of the Asia-Pacific region. Through the FEFU “Eastern Vector” policy, already this academic year, a wide range of microqualifications - practice-oriented courses from teachers who know the specifics of business or the public sector of the Asia-Pacific region - have been included in the educational programs of the Oriental Institute. 5 training modules for obtaining applied Asian Studies qualifications in the tracks “Asian Market Analyst”, “Researcher”, “Teacher”, “Communication Specialist” will be introduced in the future in all FEFU undergraduate training programs.
