Virtual tour across the campus of Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) has been created by Ilya Paliyenko, Lead Specialist, Creative Laboratory of Contemporary Photographic Art, School of Arts, Culture and Sports. The FEFU staff member embodied the idea to life within the campus development projects with the support of the FEFU Competitiveness Enhancement Program (5top100 Project).

According to the author, the virtual tour is a 3D world created from a set of 360° panoramas. It features the possibility to transition from one panoramic view to another using "hot spots" within the virtual space. Ilya Paliyenko initiated the creation of such a virtual tour across the campus as a new element to attract entrants, talented academics, and young researchers from all over the world to study and work in FEFU. According to him, this is the best way to visualize, easily and in minimum time span to get acquainted with the University and its unique campus.

“The virtual tour includes 20 panoramic views; it took from one day to one week to create each of them. It is necessary to choose a place and consider the scene, make it interesting for a viewer to wish to look around. Each image has been brought to perfection: moving objects and shadows were retouched, color correction and sharpness were adjusted,” explained Ilya Paliyenko. “Processing and merging of images take up most of the time, due to the size of a single panorama reaches 750 megapixels and the working folder with all files amounts to 400 gigabytes.”

It is the second project implemented by the Creative Lab expert Ilya Paliyenko. Earlier he designed the exhibit space in Building S, where regular solo exhibitions of students, faculty, the world's leading designers and artists are held now.
