Aug 23, 2017 - International cooperation

The 6th APEC Conference on Cooperation in Higher Education will be held in Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) within the framework of the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) on September 5-6. The main theme will be the mutual recognition of diplomas and professional qualifications for the formation of a unified educational space in the Asia-Pacific region (APR).

The organizers of the conference are FEFU, the Russian Federation Ministry of Education and Science and the APEC Human Resources Development Working Group.

According to the FEFU International Relations Office, the agenda of the conference is intended to form a common understanding of the educational policy of APEC member countries and the scenarios for its development in the face of new challenges. The participants of the meeting will be delegations of 21 APEC economies: senior officials in the rank of ambassadors, education ministers and their deputies, directors of relevant departments, heads of leading universities and think tanks in the region.

The upcoming meeting will continue the series of international education conferences devoted to the integration of APR education systems. Mutual recognition of diplomas and qualifications is in focus this year. Participants will discuss best practices and modern approaches to recognition in APEC economies, the current level of humanitarian cooperation, opportunities for developing ties, academic mobility, and the prospects for creating a unified educational space.

"Unification of educational approaches and standards in different countries of the region will allow our students to study and serve internship abroad, and to receive Russian education and transfer training hours and credits for APR students," said the FEFU Vice President for International Relations Victoria Panova. "It is important that not only officials but directly representatives of universities will participate in the conference, and the joint decisions to be adopted will form the basis of proposals for the APEC forum, which will be held in November 2017 in Vietnam."

The APEC Conference on Cooperation in Higher Education has been held in Vladivostok since 2012. The main goal of the event is to create a unified concept for the future higher education system, analyze the role of education in the implementation of the APEC development strategy, and promote the Russian model of higher education in the APR.

From 2015, APEC education conferences have been held within the framework of the Eastern Economic Forum. Participants of the previous meeting in 2016 developed a draft strategy for the development of education in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation member countries until 2030.
