Selection of organo-inorganic materials for hardening
of crankshafts necks of marine medium-speed diesel engines

Abstract: The present paper presents the results of studies of tribotechnical properties of crankshaft – cover – the neck shaft conjugation of a medium-speed marine diesel engine. In order to increase durability of crankshaft bearings it is proposed to form wear-resistant thin-film ceramic metal coatings on shaft necks, which can be obtained by method of surface tribomodification by natural and artificial layered silicates.
Chemical composition of some tribotechnical materials is given for the first time. It was found that by changing the chemical composition and structure of tribotechnical materials, it is possible to increase the durability of triboscreating in a large range due to optimization of parameters of composition, structure, topography, hardness and modulus of elasticity of the coating. The results of investigation can be used for hardening of crankshafts necks during the overhaul of diesel engines.
Keywords: durability, bearing, crankshaft, diesel, tribotechnical material, coating, wear resistance, repairs.
