Design features of screw propellers of icebreakers
and ice navigation vessels

Abstract: This paper covers summarized results of dock inspections of vessels in the Far Eastern Sea Basin. Examples of typical damages of screw propellers of icebreakers and ice navigation vessels as well as critical conditions are duly presented. Requirements of the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RMRS) for the design of ice propellers and parameters of active loads for their blades are fully considered. The example of fatigue strength calculation of icebreaker propeller is given subject to the requirements by RMRS and Finnish-Swedish Ice Class Rules.
Keywords: Far Eastern Basin, dock inspection, screw propellers, damages, icebreakers, ice navigation vessels.
