A study of granulometric composition of atmospheric suspensions
in the Sakhalin Region

Abstract: During the construction of civil and industrial facilities sanitary and hygienic requirements presented in the system of state regulation of sanitary and hygienic standards are taken into account. Construction standards, rules of labor protection and other normative legal by-laws should not contradict sanitary rules. Control over compliance with the requirements of sanitary and hygienic standards, such as air quality, allows to provide favorable conditions for the population living in the residential areas. The combination of natural and technogenic factors, such as volcanic eruptions and emissions from extractive industries, worsens the environmental situation in the Sakhalin region. One of the factors is the formation of fine particles that have a negative impact on public health. The dominating respiratory disease in the region is lung disease; one of the reasons for this is ingress of foreign particles into the respiratory tract. In this regard, it is necessary to study adverse environmental factors affecting the health of the population. This paper presents the results of the first study of the particle size distribution of atmospheric suspension contained in the snow of some settlements of the Sakhalin region (Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk and Kurilsk, Okha).
Keywords: settlements, environmental safety, atmosphere, suspension, pollution, Sakhalin, Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Kurilsk, Okha.
