Modernization of the backup propulsion system electric drive

Abstract: Deep submergence vehicles use the backup propulsion systems (BPS) based on DC motors, such as for instance ПГ168-OM4. The motors are powered by batteries, the voltage of which can vary from 200 V to 320 V. The motor speed is maintained with an accuracy of ±10% due to the nonlinear element included in the excitation winding circuit.
Most of the electronic components in the electric drive of the complex are out of production and repair is almost impossible. The design of the control panels does not allow the use of standard methods of control. Therefore, the modernization of the electric BPS is an urgent necessity.
The article presents the results of calculation and experimental studies of the characteristics of the working BPS. A non-standard method for implementing the excitation regulator is proposed, in which the parameters of the control system are set by means of feedbacks. To reduce the weight and size parameters and power dissipation, a pulsed method for setting the excitation current is proposed. The results of the work are ex-pected to be used in the repair of the backup propulsion system electric drives of the underwater vehicles.
Keywords: backup propulsion system, electric drive, parametric controller.
