Sberbank of Russia supports FEFU Endowment Foundation

Sberbank of Russia signs a donation agreement contributing 50 million rubles to the FEFU Endowment Foundation. Russia’s leader of the banking industry – Sberbank – is the largest FEFU banking partner. This decision confirms a strategic level of partnership between the University and Sberbank of Russia securing an important financial contribution towards formation of sustainable structure of funding of the FEFU development. By the agreement of both parties, the contribution will be invested into the two of the Foundation’s endowments that support priority FEFU development programs in the fields of medicine and interdisciplinary Arctic research.

“The Russian Far East and FEFU, as the leader of Russian higher education in the Asia Pacific, are rapidly developing. Efficient development is impossible without partnerships with business and without formation of sustainable models of funding of applied priority areas. Today FEFU has a successfully working Medical Center, which is one of the best and most well-equipped in the nation. At the same time Vladivostok is the key to the Eastern Arctic and the Northern Sea Route. We welcome Sberbank’s contribution into the FEFU Endowment Foundation and we are convinced that together we will reach greater and more significant results,” said FEFU Rector Sergey Ivanets.

“Sberbank is a trusted long-time partner of the Far Eastern Federal University. Our involvement with the FEFU Endowment Foundation is yet another step towards strengthening of cooperation and formation of conditions for innovative development in the field of education at the Russian Far East. Sberbank will continue supporting initiatives that help create innovative environment in the region,” says Deputy Chairman of the Board of Far Eastern Bank of Sberbank of Russia Andrey Zharsky.

The work of the Far Eastern Federal University Endowment Foundation has commenced relatively short time ago, thanks in large part to the support of major Russian corporations and the leadership of the country. Russian President Vladimir Putin in Sept. 2014 at a meeting on the government support of the priority investment projects and territories of advanced development at the Russian Far East has encouraged companies with businesses in the region to support FEFU Endowment Foundation. The head of the state has highlighted the importance of partnerships between the business and the universities in the area of innovations and student training as a key factor of success of contemporary Russia.
